Coronavirus Lesson #2: Hidden Miracles in Plain Sight Prove Anything is Possible

April 23, 2020- A morale boost for those of us who are stuck inside the house: hopeful miracles from Coronavirus are in the making. Plus, it’s time to make “lemonade from lemons” (literally!)—our yummy lemon-ginger tonic from Hawaii’s backyards.

April 2020- It’s now month two or three of Coronavirus, depending on where you are. Some of us are lucky to be able to get out to our backyards to get some fresh air, like I can in my home state of Hawaii, where I just picked the makings for a yummy, anti-inflammatory and vitamin C boost. (See our You-Tube video featuring this, and email us for the recipe.)

For most of us, however, we have been mostly inside, and we need a morale boost more than an immune boost. We can’t go out to see friends and our loved ones, and kids who are home from school are starting to go stir-crazy indoors. We all want this virus over.

But, amazingly—even though sometimes time indoors can seem to be dragging on so slowly—change for the better is happening fast. Things we assumed would never happen in our lifetimes—or even at all—are occurring before our very eyes! These offer hope that we can accomplish anything…even to create a better world: right here, right now.

First, in the blink of an eye, the world came together in unity—for the most part without politics, and without nations angling to get an economic advantage over each other. Moreover, nations acted in unison, with health—not war—as the reason. This shows us that it is at least possible for the world as a whole to rise above for the common good.

Second, in the last few months global pollution has gone down dramatically. Virtually overnight, skies have cleared in Asia for the first time in decades. And people even say the water in the canals in Venice are now clear and clean—so much so, some say dolphins have returned!

The reduced pollution has gotten a lot of media attention, but it’s important to emphasize because pollution kills. Our collective response to Coronavirus shows that we care about saving lives, so it should matter that avoidable pollution kills huge numbers of people worldwide—about 9 million annually–and contributes to leading causes of death such as heart disease. [For more on the surprising link between air pollution and COVID-19, see the May 31st blog post.]

Putting aside the much-debated and politicized question of how to best restore our air, we can all agree that we would like to live in a world in which we each live longer, with less heart attacks and strokes—and with strong hearts and lungs that are not immune compromised, so that all of us are healthier to fend off future viruses.

The good news is that we can eliminate pollution and have a thriving economy—if we want to—while saving millions of lives and restoring God’s Green Earth in the process! The question is simply, will industry take the lead to choose clean technology? Or will we, by buying consciously (when given the facts to make a good choice!), to reward those companies that put people first?

Yet regardless of who takes the lead, the key is that our response to Coronavirus surprisingly offers hope, by showing the two crucial facts that we have a choice: (1) the world can come together in unison to save lives, and (2) our actions can make an immediate impact to create a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful world.

These are just two obvious examples of many that we can learn from this pandemic to make the world a better place. Though the virus has been a shock and we all want it to go away, in the meantime we can learn the lessons it teaches for the future.

Thankfully, the virus seems to be slowing and we finally seem to be turning the corner and can begin to imagine an end in sight. As we look ahead, let’s remember the lessons of Covoid-19. Our world has changed because of it, so let’s find the miracles and hope in how to rebuild from here to the world we want.

In the meantime, join me in boosting our immune systems with these backyard mini-miracles: fresh organic lemon, anti-inflammatory Hawaiian ginger and turmeric root, and raw honey from here in Hawaii. (Remember, infants are too young to have honey, but, for the rest of us, it’s delicious!) Email us for the recipe and for our updates. We’ll talk more about food—and food security—and more on how to create the world we want.

Cheers!
